  1. Despite the fact that there is plenty of food for every person in the world, more than half of the world starves every day due to a lack of money to afford this food. There are programs, like "Work for Food" for adults, where adults will work building their infrastructure in exchange for food, and "Education for Food" where children are given both food and an education to better support their society in the future. -Chris Lansing

  2. I agree with chris. There is enough food for everyone but the ones who need it most, don't have the money.

  3. There are many inter-related issues causing hunger, which are related to economics and other factors that cause poverty. They include land ownership and inefficient agricultural practices. People are hungry not because the population is growing so fast that food is becoming scarce, but because people cannot afford it.

  4. i agree with chris also, there is enough food for everyone but the ones who need it most dont have the money, or the area in which they live does not have food around

  5. Itis sad what is happening inside our country and outside it. I dont get why theres plenty of food yet some people die of stravation. We need to stop seeing the world as a reasorces.

  6. It makes no sence why the goverment cant end world hunger if we have food in the united states why cant you give them some of our food and if we dont end this now its going to keep spreading and its going to be a epicdemic

    ReplyDelete
  7. I agree with alexis. It is very said & if we all have enough food while are people starving?
Economic Stuggles lead to starvation. Starvation leads to deaths. We should all try to make a change in the world.

  8. hey its siera. i'm going to tell you 2 facts about hunger and poverty. 1.) hunger and poverty. 2.)Familey's don't have alot of money to buy food so they go hungry. There is programs that can help stop this. i agree with chris. there is alot of food. but not everyone can get it.

  9. I found out that this is a big problem through out asia and africa millions of people are dieing because of world hunger.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Poverty causes hunger, so when trying to end hunger you have to end poverty first. People are dying because they can't afford food not because food is scarce. In the future, if we keep using all of our resourses, it could be the opposite and no one would have food.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I also agree with chris. I think we have enough food but the people who need it the most dont have it, because, they might not have money or they cant grow any.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I also agree that its stupied that poeple strave because they dont have money or they just cant grow food.

  13. Two unique facts I learned from the sites are that; (1) About 25,000 people die every day of hunger or hunger-related causes (2) To solve world hunger in the long run, poverty alleviation is required. The first fact is shocking to me, to think that 25,000 people, who are mostly children, die everyday from malnutrition. I think that the second fact makes a valid point, because poverty is a leading cause in hunger, because wihtout the money to buy food, you starve.

  14. I agree with Alexis, that it doesnt make sense how we can have so much food to eat; even overeat; yet 15 percent of the world is starving. I also agree with "XoalyiahoX" that it makes no sense that the govwernment cannot find a way to solve this problem when the world creates enough food to provide for everyone yet it seems to be unequally delt out. It seems so unfair.

  15. Two facts I have learned from these websites is, 1)One person every three and a half seconds die of hunger and it is mostly children. 2)Almost half the world, over 3 billion people, live on less than $2.50 a day.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So two facts about hunger and poverty that i found was that 1)about 25,000 people die everyday of hunger-related causes. Also 2)every 5 seconds a child or an adult dies oh hunger and poverty.

    ReplyDelete
  17. i agree with Chris because maybe some adults should go on these programs to help these children and the adults.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i learned the same thing as hoppie girl - 25,000 people die a day from hunger or hunger related causes. i also learned that 70% of the worlds women are poor. I agree with Alyssa poverty=hunger

  21. wow, going to this site has opened my mind a lot more than just talking about it. the map on the home page shows how there is about 25000 deaths a day from poverty. looking into it more i see that poverty can lead to Hunger, AIDS, Pneumonia, Diarrhea, Tuberculosis, Malaria, and Measles. which makes me think.... why arent we helping?

    ReplyDelete
  22. When I looked at these websites I realized, at least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day. I also learned that due to poverty, Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with Mike, I wish we could do more to help out. I also agree with Caitlan Toste. It's sad that we do have enough food in the world to feed everyone, but people in poverty can't afford it. All that extra food goes to waste, or other people over eat.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Many people die every year due to poverty even every minute. People even in the us live in poverty when our country is one of the wealthest countries. I agree with renee i wish that i could do more to help poeple in poverty.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'd like to comment on both Caitlan Toste and Alexis' post. It's a true fact that the United States has more food than most places in the world, and it is a commonly known fact that, if the rest of the world began to starve, we'd be the last to go. Reason being, however, is because we, unlike some nations, have the economic power to afford the food that these nations produce. It is not a BAD thing that we have food while others do not, it is simply a matter of our success in the world. But this does not mean that we cannot offer our aid to less fortunate nations--and we do. More than any other country, the United States contributes food, money, and other examples of aid to these impoverished nations.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Poverty kills more than 50,000 people every day. Another unique fact is the wealthiest fifth of the world’s people consumes 86 percent of all goods and services, while the poorest fifth consumes 1 percent.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i agree with alyssa's comment when she says that poverty causes hunger and when we are trying to stop hunger that we should be fixing the poverty first.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Millions of people die every year because of world hunger. It is unbelievable because there is plenty of food in the world for everybody. Yet many people waste it, while others are dieing of starvation.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I also agree with Chris, we have enough food and instead of wasting it we should give it away.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1)923 million people across the world are hungry.
2)Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes--one child every five seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  38. as i was researching hunger and poverty i read alot of information about how many people in this world is living in a very desprate stuggle to survive and keep their families going

    ReplyDelete
  39. I learned that every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes. That's one child every five seconds. Hunger and poverty needs to be stopped, and there has to be a way to help out.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with Cloeman, It does need to stop. Who can anyone allow children to die.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  42. I learned that world hunger is a terrible symptom of world poverty. Also about 25,000 people die every day of hunger or hunger-related causes. People need to realize the imense amount of people who die each year because of hunger.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with mike about wondering why we aren't helping these people. I agree with toste about solving poverty as a way to solve hunger

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree with Whitney, economic problems do lead to starvation which means that poverty and hunger go hand in hand, to fix one the other will need to be fixed too. Commenting on mikes post too all these things do lead to sicknesses like AIDs and maleria and people do need to open their eyes.

  48. for some reason this didnt work?? but it may be quite silly, but the most surprising thing i learned was that about 22,000 people die everyday for something related to or because of hunger. That really might be the most obvious thing learned from that site, but it is also the most impacting piece of information to me. The other thing i learned is that there are many thigns that lead to poverty, you don't just have to be born poor, and so on. The ways that you can become poor were so surprising because they were such normal things that it made me realize it's not an "highly unlikely" thing to happen, and in fact it could happen very easily, which is probably the reason for so much poverty in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I learned that a person dies from poverty and hunger, every 3 seconds. I also learned that 2.8 billion people live on less than 2 dollars a day.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with Greg, that we Americans grow too much food, and we should ship it places like India and Africa.

    ReplyDelete
  51. nick. i learned that america grows plenty of food but less than half gets harvested. every day 25,000 people die from hunger or related causes. i agree with sam that poverty needs to be adressed soon and that it can no longer be ignored

  53. It disapoints me haw people have to live. I think if we live in paradise why doesnt every one else. Why are the countries different North America lives great but Africe lives horrible what is the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  54. An interesting fact that I learned from these websites is that 5 million of the 9 million people a year who die of hunger are children which really makes me wonder, why isn't the world doing more to help these people? Yet, nearly 1.2 billion people suffer from obesity, which is definitely not necessary. I agree with Lennie, we need to really think about all of these people and ways to help them. I also agree with Mike, because not that many people realize how serious of an issue this is.

    ReplyDelete
  55. i learned how bad hunger and poverty is .
